Weather vane

A few days ago we made a weather vane . A weather vane tells you which way the wind is going . We made it with a paper plate , pencil , pin , straw and that is it . We got to color the paper plate and it was so fun to make.

Water Cycle Trioama

We made a thing called a water cycle triorama . We had to put had to put arrows and pictures and labels to demonstrate the water cycle. We even used cotton for clouds. I a lot of fun making them. We made them in 1 day . All I used was Cotten , paper, and a triorama . It was so awesome

Kindergarten buddies

We had kindergarten buddies. We did a project with them. Since it's close to St. Patrick's day we made a rainbow and a pot of gold at the end. First we colored a plate with rainbow colors. Then we cut it out in a spiral. After that we stapled the rainbow on the pot of gold. Then we cut out a pot. And then we made gold and glued it on the pot. And that was our St.  Patrick's Day craft. It was a lot of fun. Our kindergarten buddies had a lot of fun too.

Fraction Quilt

Yesterday we made a quilt of halves . We learned that fractions pieces have to be the same size but they don't have to be the same shape. So we could make different shapes on our quilt pieces, but one side has to be 32 and the other has to be 32. By Rory

Pull tabs

So far we have a lot of pull tabs . I think our class might the most pull tabs . We almost have a full vase. I like collecting pull tabs . Maybe you will collect pull tabs too. We collect the pull tabs for Ronald Mcdonld house for parents of sick kids.

Harvest

Yesterday we had a farmer come talk to us. She told us about her farm. Also how they grow fruits and vegetables. They told us about the green houses at her farm. Also a lot more. Then another girl came and told us about food miles. We looked on a map and we saw how many miles it took to get food to Missouri. Some of the foods chocolate,eggs,cherry,grapes,and so much more. After that we went to another class and made a salad. We tried all kinds of things. We made homemade dressing. And we put together a salad. It was really good. 

Smarties

Today we did a project with Smarties. It is a project with fractions. We had to draw the smarties on paper and we had to fill out how many smarties there were in fractions and we had to put them greatest to lest. And a couple more things. After we fill out the paper we got to EAT the smarties! It was really fun.

Treats for Pi Day

March 14 is Pi Day. Pi is 3.14. It is the circumference of a circle divided by the diameter. Today Ms. Mathes brought treats. It was cinnamon Piecrust. Ms. Mathes made them homeade. She made them in the shape of pi. Also it was covered in cinnamon. It tasted really good. Everybody in are class injoyed the nice treat.

Water Cycle

In science we are doing the water cycle . Water evaporates, then condenses, and then precipitates . We did an experiment with the water cycle . We put a pot of ice over boiling water and some drops of water condenses on the bottom of the cold pan came off of it like rain It was a cool experiment .

New book club books

Every time we finish a book in are book club we get new books. Everybody in our class is in a different book club.  Here are some of the books. There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom,Riding Freedom,Poppy,and much more. Everybody in our class really likes book club. In book club we meet and share what we are thinking about the book. Also we share what we like or don't like about the book.

Brownie project

Today we did a brownie project . We had to cut out square and into fractional pieces and glue the paper onto the other paper .  We wrote one eighths one fifths and more .  I love fractions and I like the project we did It was so fun!

The Sisters Grimm

In read aloud we are reading The Sisters Grimm. In The Sisters Grimm, the main characters are Sabrina and Daphne, but there are other important characters like Relda Grimm, Mr. Canines, Elvis, and many more. We think Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk) is bad because Elvis is growling at him and he growls at bad people like Puck (from MidSummer Nights Dream).

Thermometer

This week we are learning about temperature. A thermometer is a tool to help tell how the weather feels like. We all have a chart to show how cold and how warm. We learned -20 up to 30 is below freezing and 31 to 40 is cold. Columbia use Fahrenheit and other places use Celsius.We also learned 41 to 50 is about cool. I bet you are wondering why Celsius has lesser numbers. It is because it has bigger space between the numbers. By Rachel 

Weather Graphs

Weather graphs are our matirals to keep tack of the weather. The chart says the degrees in Fahrenheit  and Celsius. Our weather graph shows us how the weather is changing. So far it has changed a lot. The little dots represent the days of the month.  We also learned in the summer there is less wind so the feels like and the normal temperature are the same. The share fair

Friday we had a share fair. It was about are future articles . A lot of people came to it . A few classescame too. We either read our favorite part or they read a section. It was from 11:30 to12 :15. I loved it !

The selling test

Today we had a spelling test. We have 25 words on the test. Some of them are ladies and queasy and toys . We learned that when a word ends in a consonant and y you change the y to I and add Es. I like doing spelling tests because you have new words to spell. Spelling is good for you to know and learn in the future. The best thing you can get is an E.

Persuasive writing

We are starting a new type of writing called persuasive writing. It's writing your opinion about something. We are using take it or leave it cards. Those are cards that have an object and we ask people if they will take it or leave. And then we write about our opinion using some help with the people we asked questions from.    By Jonas and Lucas

         

Capacity

Today we learned about gallons, liters, quarts, pints,cups, ounces, and milliliters. We learned that 4 quarts = 1 gallon also we learned 2 pints = 1 quart. We made a chart about gallons, liters, quarts, pints, cup, ounces, and milliliters also.  it shows us how much to make a gallon with liters, quarts, pints, and cups. 

Weather

On Monday we started learning about the Weather. We learned that the wind creates weather. We learned that cold air is heavier than hot air and that makes our weather. Weather can be bad or good but their is always weather. We are keeping track of the temperature and we are keeping track of it in our Weather journal.

 

The weather app

Yesterday we got an app called the Weather Channel. It tells us how hot it is and how cold it is . We use it for many reasons . Like Fahrenheit and Celsius and the wind chill too. We like using the app called the weather Channel app! It is really cool and after we check the temperature we write it down in our weather journal! Then we make a graph on Numbers.

The Sisters Grimm

We are reading The Sisters Grimm. Sabrina and Daphne are the main characters.  Their grandma adopted them, but their dad said she already passed away. The problem is that a giant took their grandma. Sabrina and Daphne met a kid king that is only 11 named Puck. Puck is a trickster, as he said he was the king of tricks and he said he was going to help save their grandma.

Kid who ran for president

In my book club we are reading The Kid Who Ran For President by Dan Gutman. It is about a kid named Judson Moon and his friend Lane. One day Judson decides to try and run for president and Lane agrees to help him. I LOVE THIS BOOK and I'm pretty sure you will too if you read it. The two life

Show me readers

We have been reading Picture books for Show Me Reader awards. One of the most liked books is Trouper, but my favorite book is The Matchbox Diary(Mailei). My favorite is Trouper(Alaina).We are going to vote in a couple of days. Thee book with the most votes will get an award and they will get a sticker on the cover.After we read one of the books we then rate it on a sheet.by Alaina and Mailei

Tech Apps With 5th Grade

In class we have been deciding on what app everyone  was going to learn about. We are doing a thing that the 5th grade is going to teach us about a specific app. The apps that we were able to choose from were Pages, Keynote I movie, Notability, Adobe slate and Explain Everything,and  Numbers. We are excited and will update you on how it went later this week.
