Geometry

In math we've been learning geometry. Here are the things that we're learning in geometry.
Lines and Rays: Lines go forever and rays have one stopping point and go forever in one way. When you say your making a line you are actually making a line segment. Line segments have a stoping point on both ends.
Line Relationship: Parallel line will NEVER touch. An intersecting lines touch/cross. L T t are perpendicular lines. Perpendicular lines make a square corner.
Angles: Acute angle's lines are closer together than other types of angles. Right angles make a square corner and are also known as a 90 degrees angle. Obtuse angles open more than a right angle.
Polygons: Triangles are a three sided shape and  have three sides. Quadrilaterals have four sides and four vertices. Pentagons have five sides and five vertices.  Hexagons have six sides and five vertices. An octagon has eight sides and eight vertices.
Triangles: Equilateral triangles have equal sides. Scalene triangles have no sides the same. Isosceles triangles have two sides the same.
Quadrilateral= 4 sided polygon: Parallelograms have parallel sides. A rhombus has equal sides and is a parallelogram. A rectangle has all right angles and is a parallelogram. A square has all right angles and equal sides, it's also a rhombus, rectangle, and parallelogram. There's also non-parallelograms. The most common one is a trapezoid. They have one pair of parallel sides.

Roller coaster

On wensday we did roller coasters. We used marbles as people. We did loops and big hills on it. Some  of the people could make it go through two loops but they weren't big.  Some people made the marbles go as fast as they could go. At the end we could do what ever we want to do.  I tried to make it go through 3 loops, but it didn't have enough speed to go through all of them.

Number the Stars

In read aloud we have been reading Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Annemarie and Ellen are best friends. Nazis have taken over, Denmark, their country. They run into Nazis while coming home from school. Kirstie, Annemarie's younger sister told the Nazis not to grab her arm. When Annemarie and Kirstie were going to get a button from a button shop it was closed. There was a sign written in German. The Nazis didn't like Jewish and the button shop owner was Jewish. Also, Ellen Annemarie's best friend was Jewish. Will anything happen to Ellen and her family? Read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry to find out what happens!

Hat Day Tuesday

This is Healthy Heart Week sponsored by Student Council.

If you bring a dollar (or more) to donate to the American Heart Association you can wear a hat on Tuesday.
